Loving One Another

The quote below reminds me of a duty we all owe one another as brothers or sisters or neighbours. I believe when we do this, brotherly love will grow and continue.

Do yo wish that I tell you one thing which if you do, you shall love one another? EXCHANGE VISITS AMONG YOURSELVES
- Abu Hurahray; a great Islamic Philosopher.

As quoted in the autobiography of Omo N'Oba N'Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Erediauwa, Oba of Benin.

Honest Deeds!!!

Despite the fact that the week just gone by was quite heltic and busy for me, I amglad it ended the way it did. This is because of some seemingly honest deeds that I did.

It was on Wednesday 9th May 2007. I had gone to the bank to withdraw some money. After the transaction, I chatted for a while with the male cashier that attended to me before leaving the counter. Unknown to both of us, he had paid me in excess of =N= 3,000.00. It was when I decided to tidy my table before going to bed that night that I made the discovery.

I could not go back to the bank the next day because I was very busy in the office. Meanwhile, on Thursday 10th May 2007, I also visited a bank close to my office to deposit some money. I paid the cashier =N= 7,000.00. When I was about leaving the banking hall, I was surprised to discovered that he had mistakenly recorded =N= 12,000.00 on my deposit slip. I went back immediately and drew his attention to it. He then checked his records and the physical cash that was in his possession and concluded that I was right. He was very happy and thanked me for the honest deed.

The next day, which was Friday 11th May 2007, I left home very early in the morning. I went straight to the bank where the cashier had paid me in excess of =N= 3,000.00. I meant the guy and told him about his mistake. He acknowledged the fact that I was right that he had already paid the bank the money. He was thankful for what I have done by returning the money to him. The security men at the bank premises were also full of gratitude. The guy in question collected my phone number and I took leave of him.

Looking back today Saturday 12th May 2007, I have no regrets whatsoever. I know quite well that if it were some persons, they would have done the opposite. I am not trying to say in any way that I am an Angel, or a Saint, but I am thankful to God and my Dad for my upbringing.

What about YOU?

Work (Office) Stress

Recently, There have been unprecedented stress in my work environment partly due to the fact that my division is under staffed.

The other factor has to do with the work environment itself. I am not going to bore you (my dear readers) with the details. However, this trend has resulted in a negative attitude to work on the part of the staffs of my division. This was caused mainly by the head of our division not being interested in the welfare of his staff and he seems not to be doing anything about it despite his promise to look into it.

On my part as a staff in the division, I am watching as events unfold. If things do not change for the better, I will have to take an alternative course of action which i am not willing to mention here.

I think this piece is enough for one day coming from somebody who is stressed up in the office.

Thanks for stopping by.

INSPIRING THE UNINSPIRED

I woke up the other day feeling a liitle bit under the weather. Like some people would say, I woke up on the other side of the bed. This was as a result of a nagging headache that has refused to go despite my tackling it with drugs that relief headache. That faithful day, i decided to call my office and inform them that i will not be in the office that day.

On a second thought, i realised that if people like my Dad, who is my principal mentor, gave up so easily in the face of a nagging headache maybe as a result of work stress or something, he probably would not have been who he is today not to mention becoming my role model.

As these thoughts were going through my mind, I saw myself walk to the bathroom, took a cold shower, got dressed and head straight to the office.

At the end of that day, i felt fulfilled having gone to the office inspite of the nagging headache and was able to successfully complete some very important job assignments my boss delegated to me in the office.

I am writing to thank my role models for inspiring the uninspired.

It is Important to have friends!!!

Workplace Lessons

I decided to post the following on my blog so that visitor can read and learn some valuable lessons.
I had a row with a colleague of mine in the office this afternoon. He accused me of always dissolving our meetings. I was embarrased to hear that my good intentions have been mis-interpreted.
I discovered that he does not have leadership skills because if he had, he should have been able to read the mood of the others at the meeting and the wise thing to do at that point in time is to call the meeting off.
A good lesson i learnt from this is that "No matter how good and genuine your intentions are, people who see you as a threat to them in some way will always misrepresent your intentions. So you have to be careful when dealing with people especially colleagues in the office.
I hope you find this piece useful.
One Love.
